Course Description and Purpose

Inclusive procurement broadens the scope of a company’s supply chain by actively seeking to include small businesses and those owned by underprivileged persons.

This course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding and implementing procurement strategies that actively include small businesses and those owned by marginalized groups. By intentionally incorporating these businesses into supply chains, inclusive procurement can address various challenges and create significant opportunities across the continent. The course focuses on the principles and practices involved in creating and executing procurement programs that promote inclusivity and diversity. Participants will explore the fundamental principles of inclusive procurement, its economic and social benefits, and the legal and regulatory frameworks governing it, particularly in the African context. The course covers practical aspects such as designing inclusive procurement programs, engaging diverse suppliers, and developing fair evaluation criteria. Through real-world case studies, best practices, and a hands-on capstone project, participants will gain the skills and knowledge to create and manage procurement processes that drive social equity, economic empowerment, and sustainable growth in their organizations and communities.
