The Smart Pathways Academy is the AISCR’s flagship workforce development and professionalisation platform designed to support students, graduates, and early-career professionals transitioning into, and advancing within, supply chain, logistics, procurement, and trade careers.

Across Africa and other emerging markets, demand for skilled supply chain professionals is growing rapidly, driven by industrialisation, regional trade integration, digital transformation, and evolving regulatory environments. Yet many aspiring professionals face persistent structural barriers, including limited access to practical training, industry exposure, professional networks, and career guidance.

The Smart Pathways Academy addresses this gap by providing structured, research-informed career pathways that bridge academic learning and professional practice.

The Smart Pathways Academy is not a job placement service. It is a capacity-building and professionalisation initiative that equips participants with transferable skills, applied knowledge, and institutional awareness required to navigate modern supply chain environments.

This 12-week comprehensive training is designed to provide fresh insights into a rapidly changing supply chain ecosystem, and help translate those insights into action. This program is ideal for individuals at various junctures in their professional lives:

Course delivery method

The program utilizes a blend of teaching methods organized into 8 modules. The features and experience during the 12-week course include:

  • Interactive virtual live sessions, guest speakers, case studies, group discussions, and hands-on projects, all designed to offer a holistic learning experience.

  • Additionally, mentorship from experienced professionals and networking opportunities will provide participants with industry insights and connections that are invaluable in advancing their careers.

Assessment

  • Participants will be assessed through a combination of practical assignments, participation in discussions, and a final presentation or project.
  • Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate to acknowledge their skill development and participation.

Program Duration

  • This is an 8-week intensive program, with weekly 4-hour sessions over the weekend (Fridays/Saturdays and Sundays).

Certification

  • Participants will be assessed continuously through project work, participation, and a capstone project. Upon successful completion, they will receive a certificate that serves as a testament to their enhanced competencies in supply chain management.

Program Faculty

The instructors for the program are Prof Marcus Ambe and Augustine Enow Agbor.

An esteemed professor, and scholar-practitioner with well-rounded leadership, academic, practical, and managerial skills comprising 21 years in directing sustainable procurement and supply chain management solutions. Dr. Marcus Ambe is a Certified Procurement Professional and an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management at Jackson State University. Prior to relocating to the United States, Marcus advanced and developed his career as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and tenured Professor (2015) at the University of South Africa. He has taught at various universities in South Africa, Africa, and the United States of America.  Between 2010 and to date, Dr. Marcus Ambe has published over 100 research outputs (scientific research papers in reputable, conference papers, book chapters, and industry reports) including three (3) prescribed textbooks. He has been recognized with various awards and accolades for his contribution to procurement and supply chain research, capacity building, and awareness campaigns.

Marcus served as the Chair of the Department of Applied Management, managing 52 faculty. He is the Founding President and Chief Executive of the African Institute for Supply Chain Research (AISCR). He is a member of the American Purchasing Association, the National Institute for Government Procurement (NIGP), the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Management (CIPS), and the International Purchasing and Supply and Research Association (IPSERA).

Originally from Cameroon, Augustine Agbor started his career in Procurement and Supply Chain Management with the transportation, logistics, supply chain and storage company Exel Logistics, now DHL Supply Chain in 2008. He later worked in the chemicals, engineering, Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM), and packaging industries where he had responsibilities for procurement, global supply planning, and inventory management.

He is excited to join forces with AISCR in training, developing, and mentoring members who are new to the field or those considering switching careers to take advantage of the huge opportunities in the supply management ecosystem. Augustine has lived in South Africa, Austria, and currently the USA, together with his wife and daughter. He has a Master degree in Business Administration (MBA) and attained the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) in 2017.

He enjoys reading current geopolitics, coaching, mentoring, and engaging in nonprofit events. In his free time, Augustine likes to spend time with his family, travel and get to know other cultures.

There are no strict educational prerequisites for this course. A basic understanding of business management concepts and a strong interest in supply chain management are recommended for the best experience.

The program cost is $150 per module including a $100 once-off registration fee. We strive to make education accessible, so there are AISCR registered members will receive 10% discount towards tuition assistance.
