About the incubator

The Applied Research Capacity Building Incubator is a twelve-week
programme for master’s and doctoral students and practitioner
researchers undertaking applied studies in procurement and supply chain
management.
Research clinics, structured sessions and mentoring take participants
from an initial idea to a developed proposal, a sound methodological plan
and an applied research brief or pilot output, subject to the relevant ethics
approval. Participants also learn to communicate research to practitioners
and policymakers.

Please note: the incubator complements university supervision. It does not award a degree.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Master’s and doctoral students working on procurement, logistics or supply chain topics
  • Practitioners who want to conduct rigorous applied research in their organisations
  • Early-career researchers strengthening their methods and publication skills

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Turn a practice problem into a focused, researchable question
  • Position a study within relevant literature and theory
  • Design a sound research approach, sampling plan and data collection strategy
  • Prepare for research ethics review
  • Plan appropriate quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods analysis
  • Communicate findings to academic, practitioner and policy audiences

MENTORING AND COACHING

Each participant is matched with an experienced research mentor who meets them every two weeks for one-to-one guidance on their proposal and methods[cite: 16].

Research clinics in Weeks 6 and 11 provide structured peer and mentor feedback on draft work[cite: 16].

  • Progress assessed against milestones: research question, proposal, methodological plan and output[cite: 16]
  • Presentation at the closing research colloquium[cite: 16]
  • Participation in at least 80% of sessions and submission of milestone outputs[cite: 16]

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH

  • A developed research proposal[cite: 16]
  • A sound methodological plan, ready for ethics review[cite: 16]
  • An applied research brief or pilot output, subject to ethics approval[cite: 16]
  • Experience presenting research to peers and experts[cite: 16]
